The 2011 Atlantic hurricane season officially ends Wednesday, having produced a total of 19 tropical storms of which seven became hurricanes, including three major hurricanes.

Irene was the lone hurricane to hit the United States in 2011, and the first one to do so since Ike struck southeast Texas in 2008. Irene was also the most significant tropical cyclone to strike the Northeast since Hurricane Bob in 1991.

Tropical Storm Nate

As models suggested earlier we now have Tropical Storm Nate currently located in the southern Gulf of Mexico at the Bay of Campeche.

Most models now show very little movement or tracks to the west into Mexico. Current data does not suggest landfall along the upper Gulf Coast at this time.

Sunday 10pm update

A little faster and less wind.

Lee has been downgraded to a tropical depression and will probably loose its tropical status on Monday.

Turtle Lee

Maybe we need to call Tropical Storm Lee - Turtle Lee. He has been moving so slow. It took Katrina 13 hours from landfall until the center reached East Mississippi.

Turtle Lee reached the LA coast around 7pm Saturday and is not expected to reach East Mississippi until around 1am Tuesday.

Sunday 11am update

Tracking has shifted toward to east..

Lee - Sunday morning update

Lee has moved very little over the past 24 hours due to a very weak steering current. The projected windspeed for East Miss/West Alabama has decreased but the expected rain now projected for this area is 6-8 inches possible. That means some areas could receive that much, not that all area will receive that much. Most of the rain will probably occur late Sunday and most of Monday - based on current data from NHC
